ASTM F3446: Standard Test Method for Determination of Frictional Torque and Friction Factor for Hip Implants Using an Anatomical Motion Hip Simulator
ISO 14242-1: Implants for surgery – wear of total hip prostheses – Part 1: Loading and displacement parameters for wear-testing machines and corresponding environmental conditions for tests
This test method describes a procedure to measure the frictional torque of total hip joint prostheses. EndoLab® designed a 3D frictional torque device that allows the measurement of torque resulting from flexion/extension, adduction/abduction as well as internal/external rotation. Besides uni-directional testing (flexion/extension and adduction/abduction) simulated gait testing is performed under the angular motions as described by ISO 14242-1.
The standard test fluid is calf serum as defined by ISO 14242-1 and prior to testing, the viscosity of the test fluid is determined.
All tests are performed on a standard hip simulator meeting ISO 14242-1.
